Alex was warned not to play with the Ouija board.

Her grandmother’s words still echo somewhere deep inside her—“Always say goodbye, child, or something might follow you back.”

But curiosity is a hungry thing.

One night, Alex pressed her fingers to the planchette and whispered, “Is anyone there?”

Something answered.

The board began to move on its own, spelling her name again and again, faster and faster until the letters blurred. Her friends ran, but Alex… couldn’t. Her eyes glazed over, her smile froze, and her lips sealed shut as if stitched by invisible hands. Now she wanders in silence, her mouth forever zipped—so she can truly never say goodbye.

A pale pink strand of hair falls over the planchette covering her eye, which still trembles faintly, as though someone—or something—is peering through from the other side.

They say if you listen closely, you can still hear the board whisper beneath her breath, waiting for someone foolish enough to finish the conversation she never ended.
